This blog is all about my progress on my steam powered moped.
What? A steam powered moped you might ask.
Well, yes, the fist time I thought of building one was in 8th grade middle-school,
that was 5 years ago.
Since then the idea developed into a full project.
I love mopeds, I have an "56 Simplex witch I restored and a Tomos, just for messing around.
Okay, enough about me, more about the moped.
Answers to some questions you might have:
How are you going to make the engine?
I have an old Tomos engine which I am converting to run on steam,
with a custom crankshaft, piston, cylinder and valve.
What frame are you going to use?
The same as my oldtimer, a Union Sport frame.
Where are you going to put the boiler?
On a side-cart.
How fast will it go?
I am guessing if I can get 30+ bar from the boiler it could go up to 60km/h
What kind of fuel?
I am putting a universal-burner under the boiler so I can burn wood, coal, gas, propane/butane
and anything else that burns.
Will it be road legal?
Yes! I checked with the RDW (Dutch DMV) and if I have a safety-certificate for the boiler
it can get examined by the RDW and receive a license plate.
If you have further questions just ask them.
Some sketches:
As you can see I do not use any CAD program, I still use a pencil and ruler because I prefer
using paper.
